The Final Product

Here we go, the final composition with the posed character and the background.
I might continue to polish this character in the future.

Thanks for reading.

Finishing details

Ok so the project has been going well so far, I've had issues with deadlines but my character is not one that can be rushed, sadly. I mean, I don't want to make a half-baked effort after all those weeks of development, right?

So here's the final model, unpainted and unposed:

And here is the model, posed and painted.

Accessorieess

Another simple progress post today, I've been working on armour shapes and accessory modelling.
So far I've been trying to get it to fit the shape of the body as it's meant to be use flexible pieces.
Really making an effort to get it out of the way so I can spend more time on UV'ing and texturing my model.

Progress Post #243

Progress has been going well, I've got the basic mesh with the clothes sculpted and right now I'm working on making the armour and mask that goes over the clothes.

I've tried posing my drawing class mudbox model, and generally it works for small changes in posture.
If you go too far you end up with something like this:

It's workable, but things like that are pretty annoying.

Also here's a sketch from my drawing project that further illustrates how I want this character to turn out.

Next step, more modelling and uv's / texturing.

The 13th...

Well for the last few weeks I've been working away on my maya mesh, progress has been slow and not much had been happening with it.

To be honest the process of making edge loops and adjusting little bits at a time is not a favourite of mine. I don't want to abandon the idea but the process is pretty slow a the moment. I've decided to switch to using a mudbox base mesh that I've tweaked the anatomy and proportions of.

Now I need to bulk out the clothes and areas where it folds, then add accessories such as the mask, armour and other pieces.

Concepts, characters, and caffeine

Man this semester's really starting to become a major juggling act. I guess I'm used to that now. Anyway, because I'm doing a crossover between my drawing class and this animation class, I've done some photoshop/mudbox concepts that are useful for both of my assignments. Here's a couple that I've managed to make.

And here's an example of a mudbox sculpt that I used in those photoshop compositions:

Part of this project is redesigning the old features, because it's a character that was drawn and sculpted prior to this course.
This was a drawing of the character I made about a year ago.
And here's the sculpture that was made afterwards:

Now I've evaluated the character, and taken features that needed to be improved, like the mask and certain armour pieces.

Now I just need to start modelling the character and do some orthographic drawings, stay tuned.

Sketches

Hey so here's some brief sketches of my character. I've been experimenting and researching various things like drapery, various kinds of armour and steel meshes.

In the sketches I've been looking at how I can change the basic structure of the character, and altering the defining features. It's been a challenge examining the character itself, but I think I'm starting to head in the right direction.

Next post I'll be describing the character in detail with more backstory, more detailed drawings and concepts.
